What really matters to me in Art

I don't care about novelty, innovation for innovation's sake is exhausting, it seems empty to me.

That phrase by Oscar Wilde, "It doesn't matter what they say about you, only that they talk about you is what matters" represents much of the current work dedicated to getting a minute of attention in the increasingly unmanageable technological social network and in the art market, which is liquidating the meaning of things, dirtying everything like an oil slick that grows and grows in the sea.

But let me not be overcome by pessimism. It is better to talk about the plan. The plan to take over the world, to take over that sea with the clearest waters we have and to throw out that oil. We complain about the state of things and sometimes we give up. But the truth is that we were given the will and the fighting spirit, each one in his own language, each one in his own area and work (even those that are not paid) and that clear water will wash its surroundings, spreading clarity.

What I care about in art - be it painting, singing, theatre, architecture, writing, etc. - is its ability to project some light and beauty into the world. Even though skill or mental blindness is often an obstacle, we have to try to give our best. A work discipline is essential for this, yes. Effort, yes. But also openness, the confidence that our hands are capable of constructing what has been reflected in our mind and that our eyes then see in that mirror of the mind and place it "outside", in this matter.

What matters to me about art is that it is practiced with love for humanity, without falling into the traps of our egos, always remembering that in truth there is only One Maker, and not us. What matters to me about art is that it helps us go inward, to stop the whirlwind. What matters to me about art is that it can be a haven of some truth.

What I care about in art is that a child can take refuge there for a while, immerse himself and then come out with something clear and with renewed strength, that he can continue to believe that another, better world is possible, no matter how hard his circumstances are, there is a space of light inside him that is his sacred temple and that is also seen in that image painted for him and for everyone. What I care about in art is that he can find a key point, a ladder, an aleph.

What I care about in art is the openness, the realization of floating things in the imaginary world (see Sohravardi, Ibn Arabi, Henry Corbin, who studies the former as an expert in Iranian-Persian texts). It is not about meaningless aesthetics, empty virtuosity. That is why psychoplastic art based on CG Jung makes so much sense to me, what matters here is the language of the soul. But also of the unconscious, which is more dangerous and can be very dark.

I too have given dark works to the world, I cannot deny it, I hope I have left behind, at least as a "public" delivery, that the responsibility of saddening or discouraging others exists. What matters to me about art is that it exists to elevate us.

What matters to me about art is that it is:
reflection,
map,
key,
door,
ship,
at,
lighthouse.
